Would you like to see the creation of a new site for evaluating/rating market prices for specialty food processing equipment

Sam Rose's picture

Context: Local foods producers often find themselves producing/processing food to fill un-serviced voids and needs, which often requires specialty equipment. The post that this poll links to discusses the possibility of creating a site that will allow users to post listings of specialty equipment, and rank and give feedback, adn genrally co-analyze the market and prices for this equipment. The goal is to getr a better idea about what is a fair market price, what is the availablity, etc

Proposal:

I propose tio make a partner site to this site, with a special type of "post" being added to it that is a listing for a piece of equipment. The rating based on price would then be part of this equipment listing reference. It can also be possible to add the equipment listing from a link that is in your web browser tool bar. And, in cases where sites output RSS feeds (provided they give us permission to re-publish) we could also import RSS feeds based on certain filters, and rate those. This could also be useful for rating services, too. Anything that is currently problematic for local food producers and processors. A "market intelligence" system.

We'll start out simple:

  • just a way to create a listing that links back to it's source
  • a fivestar rating system for the listing
  • a "dashboard" style page that will show which listings are new, which ones have risen to the top in ratings

We can refine from there based on your feedback as the actual users of the site (or based on your initial feedback to this post). In a new iteration, I'll introduce the "bookmarking" from your web browser to make it easier to add a listing from any web page you are looking at right to the site.

Please vote below. You can vote "yes" if you agree with this proposal as-is, "not yet" if you like the idea, but would like to see it revised before being put into place and using such a site, or "no" if you think it won't work at all, or you oppose the idea totally for some reason.

If you vote "not yet" or "no" please also leave a comment describing why you voted that way. For those who vote "not yet" and explain why, I'll revise the proposal above to include what you'd like to see changed, and if you are happy with that revision, then please come back and vote "yes!"

This poll will last for one week, and if approx 80% of people participating vote "yes" then I'll proceed with what we come up with, or the plan above (depending on how people vote). Thanks!!!!

No, I am not interested in this at all, it would be of no use to me, or I think it wouldn't work. I'll leave a comment below describing why.

Specialty Equipment Rating System

Yes, I think this would be a great help, especially if it was coupled to a supplier rating system.

Equipment Rating System

Yes- I think something simple would be a great start and I support this move. (Sorry I missed the voting window!)

equipment rating

We just joined several groups on this site and are very interested in advice on processing equipment for staples. We are working to develop a solar grain dryer with the help of an engineer, but are also interested in mills, threshers, de-hullers.
