Work Progressing on Mobile Poultry Processing Unit

Work is progressing to develop an ODA approved mobile poultry processing unit. A large working group has met several times to brainstorm how a mobile unit and management system could be implemented. We toured the mobile unit that has just been built in Galion, Ohio, that will be shipped to the state of Vermont.

Invitation lists

I have to admit that I haven't worked my way through the list sent by Heather yesterday, but we do have the list of individuals invited to the Leap into Local Foods Workshop last February.  This was a pretty good listing of 200+ individuals who represent the Ohio food system, and may help with identifying additional delegates to the Congress if needed.

Food Policy Councis and Workshops on Saturday

Greetings, After further discussion and reflection, I want to emphasise the opportunity that the Food Congress represents for the formation of working Food Policy Councils in each county or cluster of counties in Northeast Ohio. I have been wrestling with some of the obscure nature of the Congress, "interactions across discliplines and socio-economic stations afrom all areas of the region", etc.

Local Food Sources

At the last planning session for the NEO Food Congress there was interest from some people as to what potential sources of local foods the food planning committee provided to our caterer in order for them to develop a menu. They currently work with LoPresti which provides them from time to time sources of local food options. I've attached a copy of that document to this message.

Food Congress Publicity Working Group

  1. Invitations for delegates - must also provide info on Friday site visits with maps - Invitations should be our priority. At the last meeting the group decided that Oct. 9th was going to be the registration deadline for delegates. So we need to have these mailed out 2 or 3 weeks before that. Around Sept. 22nd.
  2. Invitation for general public - not sure how this is going to work
  3. Program for Friday

Food Planning for NEO Food Congress

Hi Beth, Heather,

I think it is Friday supper, Saturday lunch.

I had floated the idea of something after the Congress for the planning committee, but that could be at a restaurant and not at Hiram with AVI, etc.

For the Congress it is only those two meals. Plus coffee, water, type of amenities during the Saturday morning/afternoon times.

Brown bag was the conclusion of the group for Friday afternoon.

Food Planning Working Group

Hello Food Planning group for the NEO Food Congress...Beth Knorr, Jean McKenzie, and Steve Zabor! This is my first ever blog on this site and I just wanted to see how it works.

Website for Northeast Ohio Food Congress

Hello all,

Matt, thank you for getting this on line. I think we should try and streamline things. Lets use this as a working and planning forum, but continue to develope a website. Andrew Heinrich is working on something that may be appicable as a website and could be interacted with by invited members.

I am working on the notes from the last meeting and integrating sections into the component descriptions that Brad generated - delegate selection process, open space description, etc.
