New ways to float ideas, seek answers to questions

Casey Hoy's picture

If you click on the home page you'll notice two new specific kinds of messages that you can send to one or more of your working groups: ideas and questions. They work the same way as a standard message, but provide a bit of additional structure to the message. Steve Bosserman has been demonstrating how to put an idea out to the group, which becomes an invitation to join into a project or make use of the idea in your own work. I've just demonstrated the question for the value-added groups, on a way to get help with finding a fair price for used processing equipment. ...

We hope you'll find these features useful and encourage your comments and feedback on them. The next features that we plan to add will be business plans and offers of support.

Thanks, Casey! You'll also

Thanks, Casey! You'll also notice that different types of posts have different types of posts that you can attach to them.

So you can read Casey's blog post above, that I am commenting on, and you can then create new "Idea post, or attach an existing "Idea" post onto his blog post.

When you use these links on posts, the site will automatically create links between posts.

*IF* you create an "Idea" or "Question" post on http://socialsynergyweb.org/oardc/startpage, it will *NOT* link to other posts. It will stand alone (but will have links like those shown on Casey's post that allow you to attach other posts to it).

Why would we want to attach one post to another like this?

  1. It will make it easier to find ideas, questions and blog posts that are related to each other
  2. It gives a read easy way when you are reading a blog post, adn are inspiredwith an idea, to go right ahead and post that idea to the group. Then when you read an idea, you may have a question, and you'll also have that link available while reading on the site, to post a question.

I am also going to make questions available to be attached to blog posts, because now that I think about it, there are times when people might have a question that is related to blog posts by other users. Turning the question into a seperate post makes it a "thing" that many people can focus on and answer easily. Same thing with ideas. We'll try to use these simple "Idea" and "Question" tools as much as possible to give some examples of how they can be valuable, and bring useful knowledge out of discussion.

I'll also be creating an easy to scan and understand way to view newest "ideas" and "questions", blog posts, etc All feedback is welcomed and highly valued.
