The Regional and National Partners working group is specifically for our colleagues from outside of Ohio who are interested in what they can learn from the networking that takes place within Ohio via this site, and the ideas for local food system infrastructure that are applicable in other states.
State boundaries may have little impact on local foodsheds, so in many ways the Ohio Local Food System Collaborative casts a blind eye to state borders as well. State and local policy, however, may have a significant effect on food systems, and this working group will provide a forum for sharing and comparing policies, practices and solutions. We also recognize that local food systems will experience times of both deficiency and surplus. To be successful, local food systems must function holistically. Participants must contribute effectively in their local system, and they also must function interdependently in cohesive regional food systems. This group forms a nucleus for scaling up from local to regional and national food system networks.

Hi Everyone,
I'm posting this to the main group as well as some other group that might have interest in increasing edible perennial production in the region.

As promised, here is the text of the USDA SCRI proposal submitted last week. Just writing the proposal was a great start on collaboration between Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and John Deere. I'm sure the ideas in the proposal will continue to grow in other directions as well. Please don't hesitate to engage the group, or any of the other working groups of course, if you have ideas for how to expand on these efforts beyond the proposed project.
Regards,
Casey

Attached to this post on the OLFSC site is an idea for a proposal to the Specialty Crops Research Initiative, under the Regional Partnership for Innovation section of the program. We are interested in including our Midwest regional partners and their states in this project. Given the short turnaround required for this program, I'll need your response soon.
