The Ohio Local Food Systems Collaborative and the Leap into Local Foods Workshop are projects that were initiated at the 1st Annual Stinner Summit, held on September 21, 2007. The Stinner Summit is an annual gathering of those interested in healthy agriculture and sustainable communities. One project will be selected annually by the Summit participants for support from the Ben Stinner Endowment for Healthy Agroecosystems and Sustainable Communities (more info here). The work of the Ohio Local Food Systems Collaborative will be reviewed and the experience will be used to plan the next project at,
The Second Annual Stinner Summit
Promoting Healthy Agroecosystems and Sustainable Communities
Would this be a good meeting for us to go to in order to meet the local doers? We are the new flavor in town and would like to meet people who share our concerns
The Stinner Summit is certainly a gathering of doers, and those interested in healthy agroecosystems and sustainable communities. This years local foods infrastructure workshop and ongoing networking is the project selected at the 2007 Summit. Next year's focus will be up to the participants at the Summit in September and may or may not be in the local food systems arena. It is a good networking opportunity regardless, but there may be other groups (Local Matters in Columbus) and other events (North Union Market, farmers markets, etc.) that would get you connected even before the Stinner Summit.

Goal for the Day: A single project that we agree to be the most important next step we can take together towards building healthy agroecosystems and sustainable communities. A description of last year’s Summit, here, will give you a feel for, or a reminder of, how the day will be spent this year.
Background: From the vantage point of the 2nd Annual Stinner Summit, we are in position to reflect on the outcomes of the project we initiated at the first Summit--a workshop and ongoing collaborative network dedicated to building local food system infrastructure. A description of the Leap into Local Foods workshop, here, serves as a brief introduction to or memory-jogger about this project. In advance of the Summit, we encourage you to have a look at the Ohio Local Food Systems Collaborative (OLFSC) networking site, and particularly at the working groups that are underway.
Morning Session: Representatives from these working groups will provide updates on progress to date. The reports will be interactive so that you can participate. Regardless of how directly you've been involved, we invite you to share in the acknowledgement and celebration of our achievements this past year and the context it builds for the coming year.
Lunch: A great opportunity for networking and brainstorming, along with some excellent local fare!
Afternoon Session: Brainstorm themes for next year's project and develop proposals for the next steps we can take together with ongoing support from the Stinner Endowment. We encourage you to begin thinking about these themes and potential projects now.
